Many corporate legal departments are taking steps to become more strategic in how they deploy resources, such as culling their list of outside counsel and providers, for example. But some fundamental confusion about knowledge management tools and where data lies within their organization may be hindering those efforts.  

Ashley Smith, managing director of legal business services at Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics, noted that the COVID-19 pandemic shift toward a remote working model theoretically placed more importance on employees being able to find and access information expediently. After all, in-house attorneys couldn’t exactly meet in the conference room to swap notes.
