The pandemic and a remote workforce catapulted law firms’ knowledge management into the spotlight. And, while new KM software can be ignored and collect dust, legal industry leaders noted that law firms are increasingly hiring knowledge management lawyers, an indication that the emphasis on KM won’t dwindle.

According to the Thomson Reuters Peer Monitor Index released earlier this month, unlike marketing and business development spend (-44.6%), knowledge management spending  increased 5% in Q2 2021 compared to the same time last year. While their corporate legal department counterparts may struggle to understand KM tools and their data, law firms seemingly leveraged that software to buoy the pandemic’s uncertainty.
