The good news is that many corporate legal departments (CLDs) are actively planning to add more technology to their arsenals. The even better news is that a detailed technology roadmap can help a legal department focus and refine its digital transformation process by accounting for the unique needs or goals that set the tone for future technology investments. But without proper input from key stakeholders—like senior leadership, management representatives, or the employees who will be working directly with the tech on a day-by-day basis—those plans could still run into familiar change management challenges.

But first things first: A technology roadmap is exactly what it sounds like—a detailed and well-plotted course for a legal department’s technology adoption journey. It considers a department or organization’s unique goals, identifies technology solutions that plug key gaps or open the door to new efficiencies, and charters a plan to execute the implementation of those products successfully.
