A federal judge has ruled that part of President Donald Trump’s lawsuit challenging a New York law that would allow Congress to obtain his state tax returns should be dismissed, marking a key win for state authorities.

U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols of the District of Columbia, in his first prominent opinion since joining the bench earlier this year, found Trump could not sue the New York defendants in federal court in D.C. to block his state returns from being given to House Democrats.
