The second impeachment of former President Donald Trump propelled a Michigan State University law professor into a media spotlight, as he questioned how the lawyers defending the former president had used his 2001 article about whether former officials can face a Senate trial.

Trump’s impeachment lawyers selectively sampled from professor Brian Kalt’s work, and he took to social media with complaints that the defense attorneys “misrepresent what I wrote quite badly.”
