Justice Samuel Alito Jr. has given his colleagues more time to decide whether to block Texas’ new immigration law, which would allow state police to begin arresting—and in some cases deporting—unauthorized immigrants.

In a pair of orders Tuesday morning, Alito extended a temporary “stay” on the law to Monday. An earlier stay was set to expire on Wednesday, which would have allowed Texas officials to begin enforcing the new law, known as SB4.
