Venable partner Karl Racine will be the District of Columbia’s first elected attorney general, taking over an office that will be dramatically reshaped by the time he takes office.

Racine beat out four other Democratic candidates by a wide margin, taking home 36.9 percent of the vote. Federal agency lawyer Edward “Smitty” Smith came in second, garnering 19.3 percent of the ballots cast.
