A veteran immigration lawyer has had his license suspended for one year after admitting to handling asylum matters without retainer agreements and to never informing five separate clients of their risk of being placed in removal proceedings if they filed for asylum.

One of those clients ended up being ordered deported, and three others had removal proceedings initiated against them before they each ended their relationships with attorney Tzadok Sofer, according to an opinion from the Appellate Division, First Department court.
