The recently filed indictment by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis charging former President Donald J. Trump and 18 alleged co-conspirators with violations of the Georgia RICO statute is both legally unprecedented, and politically tectonic.

Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows filed a motion seeking the removal of his case from the Fulton County Superior Court to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, a multicounty district containing a materially significant number of Trumpites and MAGA supporters. Significantly, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene represents a significant portions of its residents. That application was assigned to U.S. District Judge Steven Jones, and was the subject of an Aug. 28 court appearance.
