The public’s trust in the office of the district attorney is essential for the effective administration of justice. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s use of prosecutorial discretion since his election has undermined that trust after a series of what appear to be politically motivated prosecutions to gain and hold credibility in his position.
Three recent legal proceedings that have garnered significant public attention seem to be a glaring examples of politically motivated prosecutions that are becoming all too common under Bragg’s administration. Bragg’s decision to arrest and indict Salvatore Provenzano, Adam Foss, and Donald Trump, despite questionable evidence and motives, raises serious concerns about the misuse of prosecutorial power and the erosion of justice. All three cases have or will result in acquittals.
