The Morningside Heights campus of Columbia University in Manhattan, where its law school is located, was ground zero for the pro-Palestinian protests that have arisen on dozens of college campuses nationwide since mid-April. While the protests have fizzled out this week, the university and its students are recovering from turmoil they’ve endured over the last few weeks.

Although there were no protesters on the main campus on Tuesday, the gates were still being guarded by New York City police officers and university security on the block that contains Hamilton Hall, which the university referred to as an “active crime scene” earlier this week, after protesters stormed and occupied the hall for nearly 24 hours until police were called in on April 30 to clear the building, arresting 44 people, including 23 Columbia students—14 undergraduates and nine graduates.
