Gawker Media and HarperCollins Publishers Tuesday settled a lawsuit that challenged the blog’s publication of parts of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s new book, which went on sale the same day.

The settlement followed Southern District Judge Thomas P. Griesa’s temporary restraining order that blocked Gawker from the unauthorized posting of pages from the former vice presidential candidate’s book, “America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag” (NYLJ, Nov. 24). Gawker had published images of 21 pages from the book, drawing a copyright infringement suit from its publisher, HarperCollins. The blog took down the pages after the judge issued his order.
