New Jersey attorney Allison Chris Myers is poised to become the first transgender person to serve as a cabinet member in the state’s history following Gov. Phil Murphy’s announcement of his intent to nominate her as acting chair/CEO of the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.

Myers will replace Deirdré Webster Cobb, who will retire on Jan. 1, 2023, after serving 30 years in state government. Since 2001, Myers has worked at the Civil Service Commission and has served as director of the Division of Appeals and Regulatory Affairs and as a member of CSC’s senior leadership team. In June 2022, Myers was named deputy chair/CEO.
