For Georgia's Summer Associates, Permanent Offers Not Guaranteed

The relatively carefree days of summer associates past are just that -- past. As national economic woes have continued to weigh on Atlanta-area firms, summer associate programs have become smaller. Firms are bringing in fewer students than they did last year and, in some cases, shortening program durations -- ratcheting up competition among the chosen few. "It seems to me it's almost palpable how tense the situation is," one hiring partner said.
