Coercive Jury Instructions Lead to Drug Conviction Upset
A judge who told a deadlocked jury its job was "to get a result" coerced it into returning a guilty verdict five minutes later, New York's Court of Appeals has ruled. The Appellate Division, 1st Department, had earlier reversed the conviction in a 3-2 decision identifying five errors in the trial judge's charge.
