Lawyer moves and partner promotions in the California legal market.

Allen Matkins hired John Murphy as its new strategic pricing director, and promoted Adam Stock to chief information officer and Ramona Whitley to chief business development and marketing officer. Stock joined the firm as director of marketing and business development in 2006, and Whitley joined as director of client services in 2012. Murphy previously held positions in pricing and project management at Hanson Bridgett and Littler.
Fisher Phillips hired Steven Alvarado as an associate in the Irvine office. Alvarado's practice focuses on employment litigation, and previously was an associate in Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith's general liability and transportation practice.
The Contra Costa County Bar Association selected Wendy McGuire Coats as its president-elect for 2018. Coats is based in the San Francisco office of Fisher Phillips, where she is a partner in the appellate group.
Retired Orange County Superior Court Judge Thierry Colaw joined Judicate West as a neutral. Colaw spent more than 20 years on the Superior Court bench hearing civil law matters before retiring. He will be based in the Santa Ana office.
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton brought on partner Sidney Fohrman in its entertainment and digital media practice group. Fohrman previously was at Barnes & Thornburg, and will be based in the Century City office.
King & Spalding brought on Thomas Friel as a partner in its intellectual property group. Friel previously was partner at Cooley and focuses his practice on patent litigation. He will split time between the firm's Palo Alto and San Francisco offices.
Employment litigation attorney Lisa Hamasaki joined Ogletree Deakins as a shareholder in the San Francisco office. Hamasaki previously was a shareholder at Miller Law Group.
Latham & Watkins promoted six lawyers to partner in California: Jonathan West in Century City, Eric Cho and Mark Morris in Los Angeles, Ann Buckingham and James Mann in San Diego, and Brian Paulson in Silicon Valley.
Kenneth Linzer joined Diaz Reus & Targ as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Linzer's practice focuses on litigation and business disputes and also advises on corporate issues.
Silicon Legal Strategy hired Jared Mayberry as an associate in its San Francisco office. Previously, Mayberry was an associate at Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian.
Seyfarth Shaw brought on partner S. Bradley Perkins to its labor and employment team in San Francisco. Perkins focuses his practice on employee benefits fiduciary advice and litigation regarding healthcare providers. He previously was senior counsel at Pacific Maritime Association.
Remmelt Reigersman joined Mayer Brown's tax transactions and consulting team as a partner in the Palo Alto office. Reigersman focuses his practice on federal and international tax matters.
Bradley Schwan joined Littler as a shareholder in its Los Angeles and Orange County offices. His practice focuses on class action litigation matters. Previously, Schwan was in the labor and employment group at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
Fox Rothschild appointed Emily Yukich as office managing partner in its Los Angeles office. Yukich is a partner in the firm's' corporate and emerging companies and venture capital practices.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

Amy O. Bruchs and Kurt F. Ellison of Michael Best & Friedrich have entered appearances for Epic Systems Corp. in a pending employment discrimination lawsuit. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
