SAN FRANCISCO — Amy Van Zant joined Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe as an intellectual property litigation partner in Silicon Valley on Monday. Van Zant, previously of counsel at Covington & Burling, was formerly a partner at Heller Ehrman. She will continue to represent cloud procurement software maker Ariba Inc. in a trade secrets misappropriation case against Coupa Software Inc. in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Van Zant’s relationship with Ariba began in 2006 at Heller, where partner Annette Hurst put Van Zant on a patent infringement case for Ariba. Hurst, like many former partners of Heller Ehrman, is now a partner at Orrick. Van Zant has represented Ariba in numerous matters of patent litigation and counseling, and won the company an infringement verdict of nearly $5 million from Emptoris Inc. in 2008.
