SAN FRANCISCO — Three intellectual property partners left Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman on Monday to join Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton. Benjamin Esplin will practice in Sheppard’s Del Mar office, while James Gatto and Bradford Blaise will join the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.
Esplin, who previously worked as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, advises clients on patent development and monetization. Sheppard Mullin’s platform “dovetails nicely with my practice,” Esplin said, noting that the firm provides a lot of transactional services to clients in media, entertainment and advertising. “This seemed like an opportunity to make the same kind of pitch to clients that are already clients of [Sheppard Mullin].”
