Covington & Burling’s venture into the Los Angeles legal market 18 months ago got another boost this week when Wade Ackerman, a 37-year-old lawyer who worked for the U.S. Senate and the Food and Drug Administration, joined the office as an equity partner.

His hiring comes amid several developments in the firm’s West Coast footprint, like the addition of other partners to Los Angeles and new work from Silicon Valley.
