Bots already preside over sentencing, decide low-value claims, and supervise human judges—an incongruous combination that itself demonstrates how far reaching the effects of AI can be. AI offers tantalizing prospects for automating dispute resolution. When it comes to high-stakes, complex international matters, however, the human touch is irreplaceable, at least for now.

The key question is: Is AI-driven international arbitration appropriate under international law, and if not, how can it achieve legitimacy? As we embrace these new technologies, we must tread carefully, considering their broader ethical and societal implications, but not so carefully as to reject the opportunities they offer.
