Last year was a record breaker for U.S. law firm marriages. All told, there were 88 mergers, up 47 percent from 2012, according to The American Lawyer. The unions were driven by increased pressure to grow revenues any way firms can—by expanding the number of attorneys, practice areas or geographies. What they aren’t driven by are IT considerations. In fact, law firms typically don’t even consider technology when negotiating a merger.
