Former Trenton Municipal Judge Renee Lamarre-Sumners is facing federal extortion charges.
A criminal complaint alleges that she collected more than $17,000 from clients to pay phony government fines and then kept the money for herself.
She is in the process of trying to negotiate a plea deal with the U.S. Attorney's Office.
