After months of tie-up talks, Syracuse, New York-based Hiscock & Barclay and Buffalo, New York-based Damon Morey have agreed to combine operations into a 275-lawyer entity called Barclay Damon.

The union, which has been the subject of will-they, won't-they chatter since early March, officially went live on June 1. While the deal will create the largest firm in upstate New York, another question is whether or not the newly named Barclay Damon will rise to the ranks of The Am Law 200.

Hiscock & Barclay managing partner John Langan, who will continue to serve in his current role at Barclay Damon, says that discussions about creating the firm began with James Domagalski, a managing director of the firm's Buffalo office, who will now hold the title with Damon Morey managing partner Peter Marlette.
