While law firms have made great progress, there still exists a sizable gap between the needs and expectations of in-house counsel and the support outside counsel provide. In order to help close that gap, Goulston & Storrs commissioned a “Quick Pulse Survey to identify and understand several topics about the day-to-day working relationships between in-house counsel and their outside legal teams.
The report, “Closing the Working Relationship Gap Between In-house and Outside Counsel,” is a critical tool in understanding what in-house counsel really want. Topics covered include:
- The role and importance of alternative fee structures;
- How in-house counsel are evaluated by their companies;
- The most important characteristics of effective outside legal teams; and
- Evaluating outside counsel's performance.
The survey provided some expected answers, but also some very surprising ones and the insights into the changing roles and pressures facing in-house counsel are especially enlightening.
