A Dallas personal injury lawyer has begun a new practice area: representing clients who sue attorneys and others for soliciting their cases improperly.

So far, Tom Carse has filed 10 lawsuits in which his clients allege that the defendants violated a 2011 law prohibiting barratry, the solicitation of professional employment. Other attorneys have used the law here and there, but not as extensively as Carse.

“Whether it's a chiropractor or a runner or a lawyer—they are rotten. They are a bunch of carpetbaggers, in my opinion: people who can't make a decent, honest living by following the rules. I don't ask why—I know why: They are greedy,” said Carse, principal in the Carse Law Firm. “Most victims are completely unaware that it's a felony to seek professional employment whether you are a doctor, chiropractor or lawyer. Because they are unaware, they fall into the—'Hey, I can get you medical treatment; I can get you a lawyer that will get you paid for your pain and suffering; and we can even send you to a body shop. … All of this will be of no charge to you.'”
