Two Travis County judges are switching seats at the helm of the Austin Bar Association.

Incoming president Eric M. Shepperd, judge of the Travis County Court-at-Law No. 2, said that he would spend his year in leadership working to highlight pro bono and legal aid volunteerism in Austin. He said he wants to attract more Austin attorneys to volunteer, and he also wants to better inform the public about taking advantage of legal aid clinics.

Low-income Austin residents need pro bono lawyers to represent them in eviction cases, uncontested divorce, name changes, legal issues that arose in recent floods and more, he said. Meanwhile, many lawyers don't know about all of the Austin bar's efforts to provide those services, he added.
