NLRB REJECTS UNION BID

The National Labor Relations Board on Aug. 17 unanimously rejected the proposed Northwestern University football players’ union — the first time college athletes have attempted to form a union. But the board members failed to specify whether the players are in fact “employees” of the university, a central question many expected the NLRB to answer. The players submitted a union petition in January 2014.
