Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that its internally developed Matter Center will be made available to the general legal industry. As reported in Legaltech News’s initial story, the platform takes cues from Microsoft’s push to integrate the consumer grade version of Office 365 with the cloud, allowing for better collaboration across devices, programs, and teams.

Legaltech News has previously discussed the development of internal tools to support legal functions, but few are successful enough to justify release to a wider audience. According to Nishan DeSilva, senior director for Technology Solutions and Evangelism, Legal & Corporate Affairs for Microsoft, the impetus for the development of the platform was an effort to fill gaps that available matter management systems were not addressing.
