A Waterbury-based attorney who was involved in a mortgage fraud scheme has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Janet Hall sentenced Jeffrey Weisman, 46, of New Haven, on Sept. 25, and she also ordered him to pay $2 million in restitution. After Weisman serves his prison term, he will be on supervised release for three years.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the conspiracy involving more than 40 New Haven properties cost lenders $7 million.
