Everyone talks about innovation. But who, in the legal industry, really does anything about it? To find out, The Recorder sought nominations in three categories for our 2015 Innovator Awards. We wanted to identify the serial innovators–the individuals who’ve had a light bulb going off over their heads throughout their careers. We wanted to identify the incubators–the organizations and institutions that, by design or happenstance, have launched or implemented a series of new ideas. Finally, we wanted to identify the ideas and implementations themselves.

As you’ll see from the write-ups below, there is a lot of innovation in the legal space. Most of it is aimed at speeding the delivery, and reducing the cost, of legal services. In every case, someone recognized a need, had (or repurposed) a possible solution, and then overcame obstacles to implement that idea.
