Mishcon de Reya has hired Clyde & Co private client partner Martin Davies, who has a longstanding relationship with the Saudi royal family.

Davies has joined the firm today after six years at Clydes; he had previously headed Howard Kennedys' international team.

Davies has a particular focus on the Middle East and is a longstanding adviser to the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

While at Clydes he was the firm's Middle East liaison partner, with a particular focus on Saudi Arabia.

His practice focuses on advising on investment into the UK, in addition to advising corporate clients looking to do business in the Middle East.

He also advises on dispute resolution, and acted for a member of the Saudi royal family on a recent Court of Appeal case.

James Libson, Mishcons private client head, said: "His [Davies] client base and the way that he looks after them complements the Mishcon Private approach. His geographical reach, particularly in the Middle East, will make him a fantastic addition to our team."

Hires for Mishcon this year include the addition of insurance partner Sonia Campbell from Addleshaw Goddard and the hire of alternative legal provider Axiom's London general manager, Nick West, as chief strategy officer at the firm.

The firm hit the headlines recently with the news that it was to bring a case against the UK government arguing that an act of Parliament would be needed for the UK to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which would lead to the country's exit from the European Union.

Mishcon is acting for a group of business people on the case, arguing that it would be unconstitutional for the government to trigger Article 50 without a debate and a vote by MPs.
