Weil Gotshal & Manges has decided against making up any new partners in London this year, with the US firm instead promoting 10 lawyers in the US, Poland and Hong Kong.

This year's partnership round marks Weil's first without London representation since 2010. In the six years since, the US firm has made up between one and four City lawyers every year.

The new partners are primarily based in Weil's domestic US offices, including four in New York, two in Dallas and one in Boston.

In Europe, two Weil lawyers have been made up in Warsaw, with the other promotion in the firm's Hong Kong base.

Half of the 10 promotions are the firm's private equity and M&A practices, with the others covering litigation, banking and finance and restructuring.

While five of last of last year's new partners were women, equating to 38% of that group, none of this year's intake are female.

The firm has also announced the promotion of nine lawyers to its counsel ranks, including City private funds associate Peter Olds, who joined the firm last year from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

The promotions are effective as of 1 January next year.
