Clyde & Co slims global board after review as it launches data lab with UCL
Board members reduced from 12 to nine after firm-wide governance review

Clyde & Co has reduced the size of its global board, following a firm-wide governance review.
The firm has cut the number of members on its board from 12 to nine, after holding elections on 1 November.
Three partners have been added to the board, while six have stepped down.
Saudi Arabia head of projects and construction Ben Cowling, New York litigation partner Michael Knoerzer and Hong Kong insurance partner Mun Yeow, were all elected last month to join the board.
They join the existing board members: senior partner Simon Konsta, insurance partner Dean Carrigan, global head of Clydes' projects and construction group John Morris, marine partner Andrew Nicholas, litigation partner Andrew Preston, and Clydes Middle East and North Africa head Jonathan Silver.
The six partners stepping down are China-based shipping partner Ik Wei Chong, London co-chair of the firm's global arbitration group Benjamin Knowles, Canada litigation partner Carolena Gordon, New York insurance partner Daren McNally, managing partner of Clyde & Co Clasis Singapore Michael Parker, and London aviation partner David Willcox.
Clydes has also launched an in-house data lab in partnership with University College London (UCL) to develop services using data held by the firm.
The lab will be staffed by Clydes legal and data science staff and students from UCL's computer science department. Initial work has focused on predicting fraudulent insurance claims, the likelihood of disputes going to trial or to settlement, and litigation outcomes.
Insurance partner Mark Wing, who is leading the project alongside the firm's innovation board, said: "A large part of the value that law firms provide to their clients is the knowledge and expertise of their lawyers. As a global firm we have heaps of knowledge, but the question we always challenge ourselves with is how we harness it as quickly and efficiently as we can for our clients."
Earlier this year, Clydes launched Clyde Code, a blockchain and smart contract consultancy for its global insurance clients, in association with UK technology consultancy Team Blockchain.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls. The court action, filed Nov. 25 in Michigan Eastern District Court by Hooper Hathaway PC on behalf of The Town Residences LLC, accuses Crown Castle of failing to transfer approximately $30,000 in utility payments from T-Mobile in breach of a roof-top lease and assignment agreement. Wilfred P. Coronato and Daniel M. Schwartz of McCarter & English have stepped in as defense counsel to Electrolux Home Products Inc. in a pending product liability lawsuit.
