McDonald's UK general counsel and company secretary Della Burnside has left the fast food giant to join private client law firm The Burnside Partnership. Burnside had been at McDonald's for more than 10 years, having first joined in May 2007. While Burnside was GC, she was responsible for all legal issues surrounding McDonald's key business areas, including property, franchising, employment and intellectual property. Burnside will be replaced by McDonald's China GC Tina Dekker. Mandy Miller has also been promoted from head of legal (commercial) for McDonald's UK to assistant GC.

Elsewhere, Deliveroo has hired the chief legal officer at software company Improbable, Rob Miller. Miller joined the food delivery service earlier this month as chief legal officer after just 11 months with Improbable. Miller is now leading Deliveroo's 20-strong legal team following the exit of GC Sam Harper this year. Miller has held a number of other senior roles in various technology companies. He was GC for Skype and he also led game company King through its $7.2bn (£5.11bn) IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in March 2014.

Endemol Shine Group has recruited James Ward as the production company's first deputy GC. Endemol counts MasterChef, Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror among its productions. Ward joins the company from 21st Century Fox, where he was deputy GC for Europe and Asia since 2013. While there, he worked across corporate development, legal affairs and M&A in the European, Middle East and Asian media sectors. He will join the legal team in the group's Amsterdam headquarters and report to GC Emma Moloney.

The GC of Premier Foods, Andrew McDonald, has joined construction company Interserve. Premier Foods is best known for producing brands such as Mr Kipling, Ambrosia, Angel Delight and Homepride. McDonald will join the company's executive board in spring 2018. He took on the role of GC at Premier Foods in November 2011. Prior to his time there, he was GC and company secretary at food manufacturer Uniq. Before moving in-house, he was an associate at magic circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Nationwide Building Society has appointed former Barclays UK general counsel Mark Chapman as its chief legal officer and society secretary. Chapman takes over from outgoing GC Keith Ford, who is set to retire in the summer. Chapman will join the building society from 1 March 2018. Previously, he worked at Nomura International for ten and a half years. He qualified as a solicitor in 1993 and worked as a litigator at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer before moving in-house.

British pharma giant GlaxoSmithKline's general counsel Daniel Troy has announced he is set to leave the company later this year. The group is planning to move the global GC job from its Philadelphia offices, where Troy is based, to the UK where the company has its headquarters in London. In a statement, the company said Troy "will step down following the appointment of his successor, which will now be the subject of an extensive internal and external search". Troy joined GSK in 2008, after spending three years as a partner in the Washington office of Sidley Austin. While working in private practice, he represented pharmaceutical companies and trade associations on issues related to the US Food and Drug Administration and government regulations.
