Pass Rate for 2018 Texas Bar Exam Down From 2017
Baylor Law School had the highest passing rate among first-time test takers for the July 2018 Texas Bar Examination, and Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law had the lowest.

A total of 77.87 percent of first-time takers of the Texas Bar Examination who are Texas law school graduates or students passed the July 2018 exam — a decline of more than 3 percent from a year earlier, when 80.95 percent passed the exam.
The July 2018 pass rate is also lower than the 82.33 percent who passed in July 2016.
While the pass rate has shown a steady decline in recent years, this year's rate is actually an improvement over July 2015, when 76.6 percent of first-time test-takers passed the exam.
According to statistics made public on Wednesday by the Texas Board of Law Examiners, 1,193 of the 1,532 first-timers from Texas' 10 law schools passed the July 2018 exam, and 339 did not pass.
From out-of-state law schools, a total of 67.15 percent of first-time examinees — 370 of 551 — passed the July 2018 exam, and 181 did not pass.
The Texas Board of Law Examiners on Wednesday posted the pass list for the July 2018 Texas Bar Examination.
Baylor Law School had the highest pass rate of 92.71 percent, with the University of Texas School of Law nipping at its heels with a 91.9 percent pass rate for first-time examinees.
Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law had the lowest passing rate. Only 44.5 percent of its first-time test-takers — 69 of 155 — passed the July 2018 exam and 86 did not pass.
The overall passing rate for the July 2018 bar exam, which includes first-time and repeat examinees, was 64.69 percent, with 1,872 of 2,894 passing. That compares with 71.78 percent in 2017.
