For many law firms and legal departments, the focus in 2019 will remain on tried and true technologies like workflow automation, collaborative tools and pricing analytics. But that doesn't mean that the corporate world and their law firm partners are necessarily on the same page.

In a feature article in January's Corporate Counsel and The American Lawyer magazines, Legaltech News reporter Rhys Dipshan explored where the disconnect between these two sides is coming from. He found that as budgets for in-house legal departments continue to be squeezed, many in-house attorneys are looking to leverage tech solutions themselves rather than deferring to outside counsel.

This shift could mean big changes for how legal services are delivered in 2019 and even the nature of the relationship between legal departments and law firms itself. Below is a discussion between Corporate Counsel editor-in-chief Heather Nevitt and Legaltech News editor-in-chief Zach Warren about what they've heard from both sides as well as technology companies about the changes to come.
