The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform has released two letters it sent to a former deputy White House counsel and President Donald Trump's tax attorney requesting their appearance for a “transcribed interview.”

Committee Chairman Rep. Elijah Cummings made the request in separate letters sent Wednesday to former deputy White House counsel Stefan Passantino and Sheri Dillon, a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Washington. Passantino has left the White House and is now a partner at Michael Best & Friedrich, and is outside counsel for the Trump Organization.

Cummings sent the letters 12 days after accusing both lawyers of making false statements to the Office of Government Ethics during a 2018 conversation about Trump's financial disclosure forms.

The chairman's letters Wednesday said the proposed interviews, scheduled to take place next month 24 hours apart, will address “issues related to President Donald Trump's financial disclosure reporting and the reimbursement of Michael Cohen for payments to silence women alleging affairs before the 2016 election.”

Cummings singled out the two attorneys' statements during a 2018 conference call with OGE personnel regarding Trump's failure to report payments to Cohen to reimburse him for paying off a porn star and a former Playboy bunny in return for their silence about alleged affairs with Trump.

Cummings said the interviews would also give Dillon and Passantino an opportunity to offer committee members “a first-hand account of your interactions with the Office of Government Ethics.”

The requested interviews will also allow the lawyers to address concerns raised by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, in a letter he released last week defending them, Cummings said.

Cummings' letters to Passantino and Dillon did not indicate that either lawyer has been subpoenaed.

Passantino has denied the allegations. Dillon has not responded to requests for comment.
