Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati has boosted its European presence with the hire of privacy and cybersecurity lawyer Nikolaos Theodorakis in Brussels.

He moves from U.S. rival Alston & Bird where he was of counsel and joins Wilson Sonsini as a partner. He specialises in EU data protection law, GDPR compliance, cybersecurity preparedness, advertising, and marketing. He represents multinationals across a wide range of industries, including technology, financial services, healthcare, hospitality, food and beverage, and automotive.

He is the most recent hire in Wilson Sonsini's Brussels office and the second lawyer to join from Alston & Bird in recent months. In January it hired Alston & Bird partner Jan Dhont, who Theodorakis reunites with through this move.

Meanwhile last year it hired deputy head of a cartel unit of the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission, Gorka Navea, who joined the Brussels office as an antitrust partner.

The office expansion is part of a wider European growth strategy at the firm, which opened an office in London last summer.

It also formalized its strategic alliance with U.K. firm Taylor Wessing earlier this year.
