You couldn't throw a rock on stage during the first of two crowded debates among 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls without hitting a lawyer. (Please, don't throw rocks at lawyers or presidential candidates.) Seven of the 10 candidates during Wednesday's debate list a Juris Doctor on their resumes. Tonight's second debate won't be much different with six of the participants having done stints in law school. Altogether, 13 of the 20 top contenders are lawyers, including most of the high-profile candidates. Bernie Sanders is a notable exception, having skipped law school. The six others without a law degree are: Bill de Blasio; Beto O'Rourke; Tulsi Gabbard; Marianne Williamson; John Hinkenlooper; and Pete Buttigieg. With so many lawyers vying for a shot at the White House we're serving up a crash course on which law schools have alumni on the 2020 horse race, and the list is surprising. Sure, there are a handful of expected Harvard and Yale Law folks, but the candidates come from a pretty wide array of schools, and more than a few are outside the so-called T-14.
