Clyde & Co has appointed a new chief executive officer to take over from longstanding incumbant Peter Hasson, who has led the firm since 2005.

Matthew Kelsall, who first joined Clydes in 2007, will be CEO designate from November 1 this year and will officially take over the role from Hasson on New Year's Day 2020.

Kelsall has previously held several executive positions in each of its main regions, including that of chief operating officer in the Middle East and North Africa, Asia-Pacific and North America, during a period of 11 years.

According to the firm, Hasson will take up the role of consultant at Clydes, working on a number of specific projects on behalf of the management board.

The firm recently appointed Peter Hirst as its new senior partner, with Hirst set to take over from former post-holder Simon Konsta on November 1 too.

In June, it was announced that Konsta would step down from his role two years early for personal reasons.

Earlier this year, former senior partner and head of the Americas James Burns also retired from the firm.

Hasson joined Clydes from professional services firm Robson Rhodes in 1997, going on to become the firm's first CEO in 2005.

In that time the firm has expanded globally, this year posting an 11% increase in revenues to break the £600 million barrier for the first time. Meanwhile, its profit per equity partner rose by 4.5% to hit £690,000 last year – its biggest jump since 2014-15.

But the firm has seen several partners depart this year, including an eight-partner team from Clyde & Co's San Francisco office, and a six-partner team from the firm's London base.
