U.S. firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has continued its London hiring spree with the addition of another partner from a U.S. rival.

It has hired private equity partner Weyinmi Popo from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe's base in the city. He will join Akin Gump next month, a statement from the firm said.

Popo had been at Orrick since 2016, when he joined from fellow U.S. firm Jones Day's London base. He also previously held stints at Hebert Smith Freehills and Clifford Chance.

His practice has a particular focus on the African market, and client includes private equity sponsors, strategic investors and family offices on cross-border investments.

Popo's hire follows a spree of additions at Akin Gump in London.

Last month it hired energy-focused transactional corporate and private equity partner duo Shaun Lascelles and Simon Rootsey from Vinson & Elkins.

Earlier this year, it also boosted its ranks with several partner hires from  O'Melveny & Myers.  Funds partners Daniel Quinn, Aleksander Bakic and John Daghlian joined the firm during the summer.

In July, White & Case M&A partner and co-head of financial institutions M&A group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa Gavin Weir joined the firm.

Texas-founded Akin Gump posted gross revenue of $1.07 billion last year, up 3.1 percent from 2017, when it was $1.04 billion. Meanwhile its profit per equity partner hit $2.4 million.
