Brazilian firm and Mayer Brown affiliate Tauil & Chequer Advogados has brought partner Luiz Gustavo Bezerra back to its environmental practice. Bezerra brings along a team of five lawyers.

Bezerra, who makes the move from Mattos Filho, helped establish, structure and run the environmental practice group at Tauil & Chequer Advogados until 2014. He has 20 years of experience in both consulting and litigation, and is the author of a wide range of academic papers, books and technical articles on environmental matters.

With the addition of Bezerra, the firm's "environmental capabilities are substantially enhanced, with exceptional critical mass and focus on finding solutions for our clients," Alexandre Chequer, managing partner of Tauil & Chequer, said in a statement.

Tauil & Chequer has been affiliated with Mayer Brown since 2009.

"I am more than happy to be back home, where I had the chance to consolidate my career and contribute to a few of the largest cases in the environmental and the oil & gas areas," Bezerra said.

Bezerra is the coordinator of the environmental committee at the Brazilian Institute of Energy Management and chair of the environmental licensing group of the American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil.

He also serves as a teacher for several post-graduate degree courses on environmental law.
