Chinese telecom giant Huawei has appointed Philippines-based lawyer Camille Aromas as its new head of legal.

Aromas joins from Philippine law firm DivinaLaw where she was partner for more than four years, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also had a stint at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr as an arbitration trainee, and time at Baker McKenzie as an associate.

In a statement on LinkedIn yesterday (November 11), Aromas said: "Today, I assume my new role as head of legal at Huawei. It's an entirely new challenge that I'm thrilled to tackle, and a place where I will hit the ground running to continue making a difference."

She added that her time at DivinaLaw is something she will "always look back to as a part of what built me as a lawyer".

Huawei recently called on Sidley Austin to represent it after an equipment seizure by the U.S. Department of Commerce in 2017.

Earlier this year, Huawei filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. government's use of a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act to ban Huawei's equipment, with Jones Day and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius acting for the company.

The tech giant's chief legal officer Song Liuping described the U.S. government's actions against the company as "not normal" and "trial by legislature".
