Taylor Wessing has hired two partners in its Berlin office.
André Lippert is joining the firm's public business law practice from local law firm Gleiss Lutz. He is joined in the move by Herbert Smith Freehills partner Ralf Tietz. Tietz is exiting HSF following its announcement it will close its Berlin office at the end of this year.
Lippert worked at Germany's ministries of health and economics before joining Gleiss Lutz. Following Lippert's departure, Gleiss Lutz will have 37 lawyers advising on public commercial law including eight partners and four associated partners.
Tietz, meanwhile, used to work at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. At Taylor Wessing he will assist the firm's advisory service alongside company and capitals markets lawyers.
Taylor Wessing's German transaction team now has around 70 lawyers. Earlier this year, Stephan Doom and Michael Lamsa joined as partners in the Frankfurt office and Philip Cavaillès joined as a partner equity partner of Ashurst.
Other firms to have expanded their German bases recently includes DWF, which opened its fourth office in Germany in October via the recruitment of local firm Marccus Partners' base in the city.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
