Harvey Weinstein has been charged in Los Angeles with two 2013 sex crimes, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said Monday.

News of the charges broke just hours after Weinstein's criminal trial began in Manhattan, where he's charged with rape and predatory sexual assault.

In Los Angeles, Weinstein is charged with forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of force and sexual battery by restraint.

The charges involve two women in separate incidents over two days in February 2013, Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a news release.

In one incident, Weinstein is accused of raping a woman after pushing his way into her hotel room. He's also accused of sexually assaulting another woman at a Beverly Hills hotel suite the next day.

His arraignment will be scheduled later, according to the press release.

A spokesman for Weinstein declined to comment on the new charges around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Speaking outside a Manhattan courthouse Monday morning, Weinstein's lawyers said they hoped any Los Angeles indictment would not come during his New York trial, which is expected to last into March.

If the indictment did coincide with the trial, they said, the timing would seem suspect.
