Big Four firm KPMG's legal arm has boosted its legal operations in Germany by hiring an energy law team from rival PwC Legal.

Marc Goldberg joins KPMG Law as a partner leading on energy law advice and will support the development of KPMG Legal's Germany-wide energy law consulting practice, the auditor announced.

According to LinkedIn, Goldberg has been at PwC Legal for just over nine years.

PwC lawyers Dirk-Henning Meier and Maximilian Töllner join as senior managers alongside Goldberg.

Partner and head of public commercial law at KPMG law Moritz Püstow said in a statement: "Energy law has become increasingly important in recent years and is an important focus in the public sector.

"With three other highly specialized colleagues, we position ourselves very well in the competition for complex and demanding projects."

The expansion is the latest in a slew of global moves by KPMG in the legal market.

In December 2019 the auditor expanded in China with the launch of an affiliated law firm in Shanghai.

Last year, the accountant's legal arm hired 144 lawyers from French firm Fidal in what became known as the biggest law firm raids in recent times. However in November, a 13-lawyer KPMG team returned to Fidal.
