Italian law firm Chiomenti has picked up a seven-lawyer team from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe's Rome office.

The Rome-based firm has hired partner Gianrico Giannesi along with lawyers Anna Maria Perillo, Alessio Palumbo, Ludovica Cipolla, Leandro Leone, Francesco Paolo Volpe and Alessandro Barone.

Giannesi has been at Orrick for over 14 years, with eight years spent as a partner, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was also deputy head of the banking and finance department at the firm's Rome base.

The team addition brings the total number of professionals in the department to 70, according to a statement by the firm.

Chiomenti's head of the finance and regulated entities department, Gregorio Consoli said in a statement: "The entry of Giannesi represents a decisive step towards the achievement of our department's strategy.

"It enables us to further strengthen our leadership in structured finance, which is an increasingly relevant market and an expertise sought after by our clients. Structured finance has been employed in the most significant transactions in the NPLs sector, bank de-risking, as well as several transactions in the funding sector and, recently, structured lending."

In March of last year, Chiomenti became sole legal adviser to fintech association ItaliaFintech.

Elsewhere in the Italian legal market, U.S. firm Squire Patton Boggs debuted in Milan last week.

An Orrick spokesperson said: "We thank Gianrico for his contributions to our firm and wish him the best."
