Accounting giant KPMG has launched a legal services arm in Thailand.

The Thailand-based legal arm will have 25 dedicated lawyers and more than 20 additional legal staff, the firm said, and the office will give local law advice on commercial and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, reorganization, employment law, compliance and investigations, and privacy law matters.

The legal team will work alongside KPMG's existing audit, tax and advisory services.

"The launch of KPMG Legal in Thailand reflects KPMG's global strategy to grow its legal services network and capability," said Stuart Fuller, KPMG's global head of legal services.

"As part of our Asia-Pacific and ASEAN strategy, we expect to see strong and continuing growth in our legal services footprint and capability in the region so that we can best support our clients," said Fuller, who also continues to oversee the firm's legal offering in the Asia Pacific.

Thailand is the latest addition to KPMG's Asia Pacific legal coverage. In December, the Big Four firm launched four-lawyer Shanghai SF Lawyers, offering Chinese law advice. Earlier in 2019, the firm formed a Hong Kong-based law firm with 10 lawyers. The firm also saw growth in its legal arm in Australia, Vietnam and Taiwan, according to Fuller, who is based in Sydney and ascended to the global head post in August 2019.

Globally, KPMG's legal division has over 2,400 lawyers operating in 79 jurisdictions.
