Davis Wright: Deceased Staffer Who Had Flu-Like Symptoms Tests Negative for COVID-19

Lisa Carney, a 60-year-old legal assistant at Davis Wright Tremaine who died last week, did not have COVID-19, according to the firm.
Carney left the office March 10 with flu-like symptoms and was found dead in her home March 12. Washington state health officials informed the firm Monday that Carney died from underlying health conditions unrelated to COVID-19 and tested negative for the virus.
After news of her death last week, the firm closed its with its Bellevue, Washington, office—where Carney worked—as well as its Seattle office March 13. Davis Wright also closed its Portland, Oregon, location after learning of a confirmed case in the building where that office is located.
Despite the negative test, managing partner Jeff Gray has asked its employees to continue working remotely. Attorneys and staff in its five other offices—Anchorage, Alaska; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; and New York—began working remotely Monday.
"We continue to ask all attorneys and staff to work remotely across all firm offices, including Seattle, Portland and Bellevue, for the foreseeable future," Gray said in a statement.
Carney had worked for the firm for more than 16 years.
"We're all still grieving this loss to our community and are making arrangements to celebrate Lisa's life and service to the firm," he said in a statement. "We're grateful for our firm's continued commitment to each other and our clients and for the outpouring of support from the entire legal community over the past few days."
