The COVID-19 pneumonia pandemic could complicate many Americans' efforts to plan for retirement, and it's now complicating efforts by the Alliance for Lifetime Income to promote income planning.
The income planning outreach group is the sole sponsor of the Rolling Stones' 2020 "No Filter" tour.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced AEG Presents/Concerts West, the organizer, to postpone the tour.
AEG announced the decision to postpone the tour Tuesday.
The tour was set to start May 8 in San Diego and end in Atlanta July 9.
The four members of the band — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood— said in a statement that they are hugely disappointed to have to postpone the tour.
"We are sorry to all the fans who were looking forward to it as much as we were, but the health and safety of everyone has to take priority," the band members said in the statement. "We will all get through this together — and we'll see you very soon."
Jagger himself tweeted, "I'm sorry the shows have to be postponed but staying healthy is everyone's priority right now."
Jacker and Richards are 76, Watts is 78, and Wood is 72.
Public Health England is strongly advising people over 70 against social mixing in the community while the COVID-19 pandemic is a concern.
AEG has asked the No Filter ticketholders to keep their tickets and wait for more information about when the concerts will take place.
Jean Statler, the chief executive officer of the Alliance for Lifetime Income, said in a statement of her own that the alliance has closely monitored the effect of the virus that causes COVID-19 on communities across the United States.
"We support the Rolling Stones' decision to postpone the No Filter U.S tour and think it is in the best interest of millions of Stones fans and public health," Statler said. "We look forward to getting back out on the road with the Rolling Stones as soon as we can to educate the fans about the need for protected lifetime income in retirement."
The alliance also sponsored the 2019 tour. The Rolling Stones had to postpone that tour because Jagger, the lead singer, needed heart surgery.
